Fabulous arts maven Sarah Buyer tackles this week's #10Questions. Learn what she's working on and why she thinks she'd look great in a prairie dress and bonnet!
What is your profession?
Director of Education at Arlington Center for the Arts, art-dabbler, and audience member
Where do you live?
Somerville
What/when was your first Opus Affair?
I went to the monthly happy hour back in 2012 or so with Kathryn McKellar and Russ Anderson, to support some local music organizations.
Favorite Opus Affair memory?
Every time I am at an Opus Affair event, I meet so many interesting, talented people and find out about so many amazing things happening in Boston.
What's a cool project you're currently working on?
I just opened a photography show at ACA! It’s called “Developing Perspectives” and it’s a series of photos by kids with intellectual disabilities in rural Tanzania. I visited their school this past spring and the show is a result of the photography workshop I ran there. I’m so happy to give the kids a opportunity to be creative and have a voice – plus the photos are gorgeous!
What's your current favorite Boston bar or restaurant?
I’ve been loving all the small local breweries that are popping up around the area – especially those with board games.
Random fact/hidden talent about yourself?
I sing in the shower and I don’t like olives.
What does it mean to live a creative life?
I think that a creative life has to do with flexibility of thinking and interpreting the world in different ways. It’s not just about a product, but the approach to the challenges and the processes of daily life.
I am powered by/run on _________________?
Generally, I would say friends and family, but ACA is in the midst of it’s fantastic summer camp, meaning that there are 120 kids at work each day. So, currently, I run on caffeine and adrenaline with occasional sugar intakes.
What would your fantasy superpower be and why?
Teleportation – hands down. Just think of the vacations!
What GIF best describes you
(Or at least it describes my sense of humor.)
What is your favorite #bosarts experience from the last few months (or of all time!)?
Oh, that’s a tough one. I adore the museums in Boston, especially the Institute of Contemporary Art and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum because they are such unique experiences! But for a specific event, I love going to Porchfest each year. There’s nothing like sitting on your front porch and listening to a Talking Heads cover band.
If you weren't in Boston in 2016, what city and era would you be most at home in?
I spent my childhood imagining myself in Little House on The Prairie, although, I bet reality would set in quickly.
Who would play you in the film (or musical or operatic) adaptation of your life?
I’d be really happy if it was Kate Winslet.
Name the next three fascinating #bosarts people we should send these questions to next.
Marc Gurton, Chris LeGare, Kimberly Huestis.
