On the Town: Hot Hot Hot!

It's been a hot week—literally and metaphorically! Amidst a crazy heatwave (during which, unfairly, I lost no weight despite how much I sweat) we were able to witness actual history being made. My new life role model Edith Windsor (see a photo of us above) won her landmark case in the Supreme Court and the Defense of Marriage Act was struck down, paving the way to 1,138 federal rights to married same-sex couples which they were previously denied.

On the Town: Happy Birthday, Olympia!

Posted by Kyle Thomas Hemingway on Jun 20, 2013 8:00:00 AM | 0 comments | On the Town

Happy birthday to the queen of my heart—Lowell native and Boston University alumna Olympia Dukakis turns 21 today [again]! Why not do former First Lady of Chicopee Parish Clairee Belcher a favor and celebrate with some fabulous #BostonArts out #OnTheTown?!

Olympia Dukakis is no stranger to math: she'll count Anne Boelyn's fingers with the best of them! The Foundry Equation's math looks something like this: "Art plus community equals renewal." From 11am–3pm on Saturday, FLUX Boston, Opus Affair, Voltage Coffee, and Yes.Oui.Si. will present this art initiative and open house at the City of Cambridge-owned Foundry Works Building. Come check out this fabulous proof of concept to turn this building into a community art center!

The Foundry Equation: At the Foundry Works Building; 101 Rogers Street, Cambridge; thefoundryequation.org. June 22 only. #thefoundryequation

On the Town: And the Tony goes to...

And the Tony goes to...KYLE THOMAS HEMINGWAY! This weekend, ironically the same weekend as Boston Pride, Gay Christmas occurs. The Antoinette Perry Awards, coming to you live June 9 from Radio City Music Hall, are a rich and storied tradition where the Broadway community gets together to honor the finest work of the past year. As luck would have it, Boston's very own Huntington Theatre Company won this year's Regional Theatre Tony Award; and in an even further stroke of luck, I will be in attendance with the lovely Huntington staff to root, root, root for the home team (I think this may be the first time I've ever made a sports reference in this column...I may be having a stroke). Be sure to follow me on Twitter for live updates throughout the evening, as well as some man-on-the-street What is Opus Affair? video entries with special guest stars (get your entries in ASAP!).
